Year End Recital
The opportunity to perform in a recital is an exciting, empowering and confidence building part of the training process. This is where we love to watch our students of all ages and abilities learn about the theatre, rehearsals and teamwork while they enjoy the opportunity to showcase their skills in a professionally run production. Recitals are a wonderful way for students to showcase the results of their hard work and for family and friends to join in the pride of their achievement. We love giving all students the chance to perform for their family and friends in this supportive and fun environment and encourage even our youngest and newest performers to be involved.
If you have an unavoidable conflict with our recital dates and your child will not be participating, please notify our office as soon as possible so your teacher can plan accordingly.
We will split our school into five separate casts:
Preschool – All Kinder Ballet and Kinder Combo classes.
Purple Cast – 33% of our 5-17 year old classes
Green Cast – 33% of our 5-17 year old classes.
Yellow Cast – 34% of our 5-17 year old classes.
Aerial – All Aerial classes.
We work hard on dividing our 650+ students into separate casts to keep performance run times under 2 hours, if possible, as well as to maximize ticket availability for parents. Please know that it can sometimes be impossible to cast siblings in the same show, or to keep dancers in only one show if they are in multiple dance classes.
We spend a large chunk of time creating our casts. We triple check all the conflicts to minimize them as much as possible. If your child is in multiple casts, or siblings are in different shows, we can assure you that we did everything possible to avoid this.
Our Recitals will be a bit different this year with a separate Preschool Recital in Squamish (venue tba) performing one time only, Aerial Hoop Recital at Squamish Dance Centre performing one time only and Purple, Green and Yellow Recitals performing two times at Kay Meek Arts Centre in West Vancouver. More details to come!
Before our big recital week, we hold rehearsals at the theatre so dancers can get comfortable on the stage, try out their costumes, work out any undergarment/shoe/hair issues, practice their dance routine a few times and have the most magical bonding experience with their dance friends. Each class’ rehearsal time takes approximately 15 minutes total.
Our Purple, Green and Yellow Rehearsals will be held in West Vancouver at Kay Meek Arts Centre on May 25th and Recital will be held in West Vancouver at Kay Meek Arts Centre on June 21st and June 22nd (each cast performing two times: Saturday AND Sunday)
Our Aerial Rehearsal will be held at Squamish Dance Centre on June 2nd and Aerial Recital will be held at Squamish Dance Centre on June 7th.
There will be no rehearsal for our Preschool dancers and Preschool Recital will be held in Squamish (venue tba) on June 8th.
Our Recital Handbook is released February 1st. It includes absolutely EVERYTHING you need to know about our recital preparations and events. We ask that you stay tuned for the release of our Recital Handbook, which we’re sure will answer all of your burning questions.
